Privacy Policy

What we know about you, why we know it, who else sees it, and what you can do about it. Written to be read — if a line here is unclear, tell us and we will change the wording.

We never sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to anyone. It has never been for sale.

No marketing unless you say yes

And you can change your mind in one click, at any time.

Only trusted partners

A short list of companies that do one job each, bound to keep it safe.

No surprises

We do not use your information in ways this page has not told you about.

Who we are

Skillit is an online learning platform run by Skillit Platform in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Where this policy says we or us, it means that company.

We decide what personal information Skillit holds and why, which under Bahrain’s Personal Data Protection Law — Law No. 30 of 2018 — makes us responsible for it. This policy covers everyone who uses Skillit: members learning in a community, tutors running one, and visitors who have not signed up at all.

Questions about anything here go to info@skillit-bh.com.

What we collect when you join

To make an account we ask for your first and last name, email address, mobile number with its country code, date of birth, gender and country. You can add a profile picture; you do not have to.

Your password is stored scrambled using a one-way process. Nobody at Skillit can read it, and we could not tell you what it is if you asked.

If you sign in with Google instead, Google passes us your name, email address and profile picture. We never see your Google password.

We ask for your date of birth because of the age rules further down this page, not to profile you.

What we collect as you learn

Skillit records what you do inside a community, because that is what makes it work — your progress bar, your points and the badges you earn all come from it.

  • Lessons — which you have opened and finished, and how far through a video you were, so it can pick up where you stopped.
  • Assignments — your answers, whether you passed, and when.
  • Points and badges — every point is a dated line saying what earned it, and which badges you have.
  • Days you turned up — a list of dates, so a streak means something. Not times, just dates.
  • Discussions — what you post, what you like, and anything you report.
  • Reviews — the rating and words you leave on a community or a tutor.
  • Live sessions — whether you went in, and when.

What we collect when you teach

Tutors have a public profile: name, photo, biography, speciality and any social links you add. That page is visible to anyone.

To pay you we hold your IBAN and a record of every payout — what period it covered, what it came to, and when it was sent. Your IBAN is never shown to members and never leaves Skillit except to make the payment.

We also keep the material you publish, the sessions you schedule, and a record of who attended them.

What we collect automatically

Some things arrive without you typing them:

  • Your IP address, browser and device type, from ordinary server logs.
  • When you sign in, and which device is signed in now — because an account may only be used on one device at a time, we have to know which one that is.
  • Your currency choice, so prices stay in the currency you picked.

What we do not collect: we do not track your location, we run no advertising trackers, and we do not follow you around other websites. Skillit has no mobile app, so nothing is taken from a phone beyond the browser you visit us with.

No decision about you is made by a machine alone. Assignments are marked automatically, but a mark is not a decision with legal consequences — and if you think one is wrong, a person will look at it.

What your tutor can see

Your tutor sees what they need to teach you and nothing else:

  • Your name and profile picture.
  • Your progress in their community, and your assignment results.
  • What you post in their discussions.
  • Whether you attended their live sessions.

They do not see your email address, your phone number, your date of birth, or anything about your payments. Tutors are also told, in their agreement with us, that they may not take member details off Skillit or use them to sell to you directly.

What other members can see

Your name and picture, and anything you choose to post in a discussion or leave as a review. Nothing else about you is visible to them — not your progress, not your results, not your contact details.

Live sessions

Live sessions run inside Skillit but the video itself is carried by Whereby, a third-party service. When you enter a session your display name is passed to them so people can see who is in the room. Your email address is not.

We record that you entered and when, so your tutor knows who came. Sessions are not recorded — there is no video of you afterwards, and we hold nothing of what was said.

Whereby processes that information under its own privacy terms, on servers outside Bahrain.

Lesson videos

Lesson videos are not public files. Each one is served through a link that expires and is tied to your account, and while it plays, your name and account number are shown on screen.

That watermark exists to discourage people from recording a tutor’s course and passing it on. It means a leaked recording can be traced back to the account it came from, so it is worth knowing it is there.

Messages we send you

Some messages are part of the service and you cannot turn them off: a receipt, a warning that a payment failed, a community closing, a password reset. Those go by email.

Others you control — a reminder before a live session, a reply in a discussion, a badge earned. You choose whether those reach you inside Skillit, by email, or on WhatsApp, and you can change your mind in your account at any time.

We keep a record of what we sent, to whom and whether it arrived, so that when somebody says they never got something we can find out what actually happened. That log holds the message and the address or number it went to.

When you ask us for something

If you use the form to ask for a subject you would like taught, we keep what you asked for and your contact details, so we can tell you if it appears. That form asks your permission separately for being contacted — ticking it is your choice.

If you report a problem, we keep your report, your email and phone number, and our reply, under a reference number. We need to be able to reach you about it, and to show later what was said.

Payments

Subscriptions are monthly. We hold the record of what you subscribed to, what it cost, the dates, and whether it is active or cancelled.

Card details never reach us. They go straight to our payment provider, who is responsible for handling them safely. We see that a payment succeeded or failed — not your card number.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website leaves on your device. We use as few as we can, and none of them follow you elsewhere:

  • Signing in — keeps you logged in and remembers which device you are on.
  • Your basket and checkout — remembers what you are buying.
  • Your preferences — the currency you chose.
  • Speed — our caching keeps pages quick.

We use no advertising or tracking cookies at all. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but blocking the first two will stop you signing in or paying.

Who else handles your information

Only companies that do a specific job for us, and only what that job needs:

WhoWhat they do
Our hosting providerRuns the servers Skillit sits on
Our payment providerTakes card payments and handles card details
WherebyCarries the video in live sessions
GoogleOnly if you choose to sign in with it, and where our backups are stored
Our email and WhatsApp providersDeliver the messages you have asked for
Our accountants and advisersWhere the law or a dispute requires it

Each is bound to use your information only as we instruct and to keep it safe. We may also hand information to an authority or a court where the law requires it, and if Skillit is ever sold or merged your information may move with the business — you would be told before anything changed.

We have never sold personal information, and we will not.

Sensitive information

Bahrain’s law treats some information as sensitive: race or ethnic origin, political or philosophical views, religious belief, union membership, criminal record, and anything about health or sexual life.

Skillit does not ask for any of it and does not want it. Please do not put it in a discussion post or an assignment. If it reaches us anyway — because somebody wrote it in a message — we hold it only as long as it takes to deal with that message, and we do not use it for anything else.

How long we keep it

WhatHow long
Your account and profileWhile your account exists, then 30 days
Progress, points and badgesWhile your account exists
Discussion posts and reviewsThey stay in the community unless you ask us to remove them
Payment and payout records10 years, because accounting and commercial law require it
Messages we sent you2 years
Sign-in and security logs12 months
Session attendanceWhile the community exists
BackupsFour rolling copies, then overwritten

When you delete your account we remove your personal details. We keep the payment records the law obliges us to keep, and anything you posted publicly stays unless you ask for it to go. Where we cannot delete something for a legal or technical reason, we stop using it instead.

Where it is stored

Skillit runs on servers outside Bahrain, and is backed up to Google Drive. Some of the services we use — Whereby, Google, our email and messaging providers — also handle information abroad.

Where information leaves Bahrain we rely on the contractual protections those providers publish, and we choose providers who publish them. Wherever it sits, we hold it to the standard Bahrain expects.

Keeping it safe

The whole site runs over an encrypted connection. Passwords are stored one-way and cannot be read. Lesson videos are served through expiring links tied to one account. An account can only be signed in on one device at a time, and signing in somewhere new ends the other session immediately.

Access to member information inside Skillit is limited to the people who need it, and a tutor only ever sees their own community.

No system is perfect, and anybody who tells you otherwise is selling something. If information is ever exposed in a way that puts you at risk, we will tell you and the Authority, explain what happened, and say what to do about it.

Marketing

We only send marketing if you have said yes, and you can stop it at any time — from your account, from a link in the message, or by writing to us. Stopping marketing does not stop the messages you need, like a receipt or a notice that a community is closing.

Your rights

Under Bahrain’s Personal Data Protection Law you can ask us to:

  • Show you what we hold about you, and give you a copy.
  • Correct anything wrong. Most of it you can edit yourself in your account.
  • Delete your account and the personal information in it.
  • Stop or limit a particular use of it.
  • Withdraw consent you gave us, marketing included.
  • Object to something we are doing, and have a person consider it.

Write to info@skillit-bh.com and we will answer within 30 days. There is no charge for asking.

If you think we have got it wrong and we have not put it right, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Authority in Bahrain. We would rather you came to us first, but that route is yours and we will not make it difficult.

If you are under eighteen

Skillit is for people aged 13 and over.

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree before you make an account and before any payment is taken. We ask for your date of birth at sign-up for exactly this reason, and we record that consent was given.

If you are under 13, please do not use Skillit or send us anything about yourself. If we find an account belongs to someone under 13 we close it and delete what we hold.

Parents and guardians can write to us at any time to see, correct or delete what we hold about their child, and to withdraw consent. A tutor never sees a member’s date of birth.

If something goes wrong

If there is a security incident involving your information, we act to contain it first, then tell the people affected and the Authority as quickly as we can — with what happened, what it means for you, and what to do.

If you think your account has been got into, write to info@skillit-bh.com straight away. Changing your password signs out every other device immediately.

Changes to this policy

When we change it, the date at the top changes with it. If a change matters to you — a new use of your information, a new company handling it — we tell you by email or a notice on the site before it takes effect, rather than hoping you notice.

Still not sure about something?

Write to info@skillit-bh.com. A person reads it, and you get a straight answer within 30 days — usually the same week.
